Labor Day Weekend
This weekend was a good one and I got to spend lots of time with my family (including Caroline) this weekend. Colleen was a little MIA this weekend but she's been working a lot. Friday night kicked off with Caroline getting in town. We headed to see Emma cheerleading with the big girl cheerleaders (she's 5) @ Cathedral of Praise. It was the cutest thing ever. I even got Caroline to pose with Emma's pom poms.
After we left the football game we headed to dinner and enjoy a drink (probably the best Sangria ever).
It was an early night so we headed home after dinner (shout out to our waitress Colleen. Good service).
I spent Saturday @ the pool with Caroline and my parents. The weather was a little overcast but it was still a good day to gear up for a little Gamecock football. Caroline and even Colleen made a surprise appearance at my house where we spent the next 4 hours watching the Gamecocks send the Pirates back to ECU with their first loss of the season (I'm not going to lie. I was a little nervous for the first half of the game).
Sunday I did a little grocery shopping and headed to my parents for a cookout. Afterwards I went to Colleens house and watched True Blood. Awesome episode and I'm sad that next week is the season finale. I'm seriously thinking about starting the books but then I think I'd be all kinds of confused.
To finish up this family packed weekend. My dad and I took a trip downtown to test out my photography skills. I'll post some of those pictures soon. My charger for my laptop has gone kaput so I'm going to pick up a new one after work. My dad seems to be doing really well and hopefully wants this thyroid deal is taken care of we can put this whole thing behind us and he can get back to normal life.
I hope everyone enjoyed their extra long weekend and that their extra short week goes by easy breezy.

Surgery day
My dad went into surgery this morning @ 8:00 am. The surgery should last about 3 hours. Colleen will be sending everyone an update when he comes out of surgery and she can talk to the doctor. Thanks again to everyone that has been thinking of him and keeping him in their prayers.

Dad update
So as some or most of you know my dad suffered a stroke on Wednesdsay. He was in Boston for work and was due to fly back to Charleston that evening. The stroke happened as he was getting ready to leave for work that morning and he was able to call my mom and 911. Also for those of you who know my dad this won't come as a shock but he packed his suitcase, briefcase, and laptop without mobility in his right arm and hand (he's also right handed). They took him to Mass General Hospital where they have been taking excellent care of him. Colleen flew out to Boston yesterday and has been giving updates every few hours. The Neurologists explained he had an ITA. There doesn't seem to be any major lasting affects except for some minor loss of function in his right hand which the doctors are confident with a little physical therapy he will regain full use. The Vascular surgeon will be performing surgery Monday, to remove the plaque from his carotid artery on the left side of his neck. It is a fairly routine surgery and the doctor said most people are discharged the following day. We also saw an Endocrinologist because they have found a small lesion on one of his thyroids. They will be doing an ultrasound on it today to find out more but it is not something they are immediately concerned about as a matter of fact it will probably be something that he follows up on after he returns to Charleston. After they discharge him he will have to hang out in Boston for a few more days before he can start his travels home. He is unable to fly so it will be limited to either one of us driving him back from Boston or to take a train. I think the train might be the better solution of the two. This has been a very difficult time for all of us especially since we can't all be with him at this time. Thank you to everyone that has sent prayers and well wishes our way. They are much appreciated.
I will update this blog as we get more information but right now we are looking forward to Monday and the surgery going well.

Wednesday Whining
Ususally I get an extra pep in my step when Wednesday rolls around. I think maybe its been the gloomy weather around Charleston the past couple of days (not that my grass and flowers are complaining). At least in 48 hours I can start my weekend. I love summer breeze hours (especially on Fridays). Oh and don't forget.... Shark Week starts on Sunday 07/31. Exciting.

Productive weekend
My mission this weekend was to find a small end table for my living room and 2 more chairs for my kitchen table. My mom and I went to some yard sales and I found a little side table for my living room. Then we headed to breakfast and then over to Habitat for Humanity in Summerville/Jedburg (I think we passed a Jedburg sign). There I found the 2 chairs. The chairs needed a little TLC but they are good solid wood chairs. They will look like new after a little sanding and paint. Next I headed over to Lowes and bought paint for the chairs and table. I bought an Almond color for the chairs and a fun green for the table. I still can't get over the how many different shades of green paint there is and that was only @ Lowes. I'll have to post before and after pictures. I haven't gotten to the "after" part yet but I'm going to hopefully get to it this weekend. Oh and I can take awesome pictures b/c of my awesome new camera. So as soon as I get a chance I will post the pictures of my yard sale finds. It was actually a lot of fun and I even did a little barganing. Sunday I headed over to the pool. The weather this weekend was fab and I don't remember summer weather in Charleston like that in a really long time. Looking forward to Wednesday. My mom and sister are coming over for dinner. I'm going to grill Salmon and then attempt zucchini cakes. The recipe looks pretty easy and the picture along with the recipe looks delish...
